So, the main reason that I am hesitant to move to DW full-time? It is ugly, guys. I'm glad I found one that makes my flist readable, finally. So I guess I am going to try this cross-posting thing for a spell, before I decide one way or the other. (I miss my icons here, though! How many icons does a paid account get you?) Anyway, I'm now going to try to start reading both my DW and LJ flists. If you've got a DW and want to follow me, I'm
ongaku here. I'm going to try to go through recent entries this week and see if there are any of you I missed, but I'm not sure if I'll have time.
I really don't have anything insightful or crazy or fun going on in my life, so I am going to play "Things that I am digging right now."
1) Early music. This past week I've been re-discovering my love for Medieval music. I found a couple chant CDs that I had bought on sale but never listened to - bliss! I especially love this Anonymous 4 CD called "The Origin of Fire". It's entirely music by Hildegard von Bingen, one of my all-time favorites. I am listening to this non-stop, seriously.
2) The Apple Genius Bar. Whenever something breaks or malfunctions on my Mac, I make sure to actually go to the store to see a specialist, instead of just buying a replacement off the shelf. Like last year, the hold switch on my iPod didn't work (and never worked). I brought it into the Genius Bar, and BAM! Replacement iPod get! The same thing happened yesterday, when my power cord split. Brought it in today, fully expecting to pay for it, but BOOM! Replacement cord get! And thank goodness, because those things are expensive. But I think it is under warranty when it splits right at the head of it, and starts to ooze green sludge. Like... I don't know how that could be user error... although if it is possible, I want to know, because that would be an interesting skill to acquire.
3) Lip balm! I have a bit of a thing for the CO Bigelow balms and tints that Bath and Body Works carries, and when I went to the mall today they were on sale, so.... After picking up a couple of things I needed replacements on, I also picked up a tube of their Night Lip Balm. It is AMAZING. It promises 8 hours of moisturizing power, and I know I'll be asleep for a large part of that, but I've had it on an hour and it still feels balm-y. It's a bit thicker than their usual balms and gives my lips a bit of a glossy look and feel, but it's not overly sticky. It's unscented, but that means it smells like the shea butter used in it, which is delicious. :)
4) Sailor Moon! I've been catching up on the manga, and rewatching the anime. Manga first - I finished the second volume of Sailor V, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the things that struck me is how much Takeuchi Naoko understands idol culture, especially from the fan perspective. Minako and her classmates fall for different idols constantly, and go to fan events and so on. The first volume even mentions her wanting to go home quickly, because a SMAP drama was on TV, heehee! (She must have been a big fan, because this was 1994, when SMAP was not too popular yet.) This knowledge of fans has continued into my anime watching, where I am finally watching all of the last season. I don't know why I waited, because I am really enjoying it. Again, having studied idol culture, the use of the Three Lights is really interesting and cool, from their juggling professional and personal life, to avoiding scenes that could be photographed the wrong way. XD I've got about 20 episodes to go, so I'll probably finish that up this week.
5) Earplugs. GUYS I AM SLEEPING SO WELL. Larry has pretty erratic snoring patterns, which I am trying to get used to, but they keep me awake regardless. I bought some "sleeping" earplugs from CVS, and WOW. They don't block all of the sound, but they do block enough that snoring and other noise is just kind of white, and nothing I can concentrate on. Yay for getting restful sleep!
Well, that was fun. XD Finally, because I had people asking a couple weeks ago for pictures of the ring...

:)
